Anomalies

[edit]

This is an excellent map, however there are several anomolies in regards to the evolution of the canadian arctic.

  • It is shown that all of the Arctic islands are ceded to canada in 1880, this is not reality. Many of the islands were not discovered until well after 1880, some as late as 1948. Thus these islands were not even part of the British Arctic Islands as they were unclaimed by anyone and thus terra nullis. The three major waves of discoveriess after 1880 were in 1898, 1916, and 1948. The respective islands should be shown as terra nullis until at least their discoveries.
  • The second issue is that the Sverdrup Islands, which were discovered in 1898, where a possesion of Norway until 1930. They should be shown as disputed between canada and norway from 1928 when they were claimed by norway to 1930 the date the treaty cedeing them to canada was signed.

this map doesn't show the stikine territory, I know the territory only lasted a year but if you're going to make a map of Canada's history you have to include it --Mike Oosting (talk) 22:35, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The map starts at confederation in 1867, Stikine Territory existed before then. Király-Seth (talk) 22:57, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Border change with Newfoundland and Labrador

[edit]

The border didn't change in 1927. The British Privy Council confirmed that the border was indeed correct as it has been established in the previous century. I feel the influence of a Québécois -- :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by ITLambert (talkcontribs) 17:38, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No longer animated

[edit]

Seeing as this .gif is no longer animated as per Wiki policy should this file be removed? Krazytea(talk) 09:19, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The GIF is still animated. (Of course it is — how could the file change??) The thumbnails may not be animated because of a bug in the software that resizes them. —Keenan Pepper 22:08, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe that bug should be fixed by now, otherwise it's useless — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.118.205.32 (talk) 06:25, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have to concur that as of Nov 24, 2012 that animation on this gif is NOT working on my Mac using Chrome 23.0.12 or Firefox 16.02 Nessman (talk) 20:08, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
February 23, gif continues as non-functioning. How is this a featured picture if its bugged. I will hopefully be able to fix this in the next few months, though I encourage someone else to do so. The file only works if it is loaded on its own. One of the problems may be the file size. Not entirely sure. Krazytea(talk) 06:48, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've played with it a little over the last couple minutes and the file is definitely corrupted in some way, undownloadable and unfixable, will have to be reloaded in an entirely new format for it to function properly as a thumb .gif. Krazytea(talk) 07:06, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
