The second Swamp Thing issue written by Alan Moore, The Anatomy Lesson reinterpreted and rewrote the whole history of the title character and changed the series' focus majorly.

Although the picture is originally copyright, it is covered by fair use because:

  1. It is a low resolution copy of a comic book cover, hence, only a small portion of the commercial product. Even the grade of the book the image was scanned from is terrible, looks like a G/VG or VG-;
  2. The use of the image will not affect the value of the original work or limit the copyright holder's rights or ability to sell or distribute the original comic book;
  3. Copies of this image could not be used to make illegal copies of the comic book;
  4. The image is used as the primary means of visual identification of topics in the article. For a visual medium such as comic books, words alone cannot adequately describe the subject;
  5. Issue #21 is significant for being the retcon of Swamp Thing. The retcon transformed Swamp Thing from a human monstrosity into a god-like Elemental.
