Pilot Officer (PO) Jake Newham of Cowra, NSW is shown just before he climbs into his Vampire fighter aircraft for a sortie in a NATO mock air battle over Malta. PO Newham was stationed in Malta with 78 Fighter Wing RAAF, which was working with units of the Mediterranean Fleet in the NATO naval exercise Medflex-Baker. The Wing participated in various NATO exercises as part of its garrison duties in the Mediterranean.
